Loretta and the Butcher: Where Flavor and Comfort Meet

3 mins read

Some spots take time to grow on you. Loretta and the Butcher? It’s the kind of place you fall for right away. The Coconut Grove restaurant is relaxed, unfussy, and just solid across the board. Whether you’re rolling in with friends, bringing the family, or out on a low-key date night, this place just works.

Empanadas

No matter what, the empanadas should be your first move upon arriving. They hit the table hot and packed with flavor – the kind of starter you think you’ll split but end up wanting to keep to yourself. Same goes for the sweetbreads, which are rich and unexpectedly addictive. Even if you’ve never ordered them before, you’ll probably find yourself planning a return visit just to get them again.

Strip loin and fries

When you think of Argentine food, steak is probably the first thing that comes to mind. And Loretta and the Butcher doesn’t disappoint in that regard. The strip loin is a standout here because it’s simple in the best way: a big, juicy steak that speaks for itself. No need for heavy sauces or fancy garnishes – it’s just a perfectly cooked cut, served alongside fries that don’t need any dressing up to hold their own. If comfort food is what you’re after, the Milanesa Napolitana is a must-try. It’s cheesy, saucy, and unapologetically indulgent – the kind of dish that sticks with you long after the meal is done (trust us, we’ve been there).

Not in the mood for steak? No problem. The menu’s full of great alternatives. The pastas are hearty and satisfying, the sandwiches will fill you up without weighing you down, and the burgers are the kind that require a stack of napkins. Plus, there’s a kids’ menu, which is an absolute game-changer if you’ve got little ones in tow. No matter who you’re dining with, everyone’s going to leave happy.

Have room for dessert? If not, you’ll definitely want to find room. The flan is a classic for a reason: smooth, creamy, and perfectly balanced with just the right amount of caramel. If you’re in the mood for something a little different, the panqueques (crepes) are a sweet and satisfying way to end your meal on a high note.

You won’t leave hungry, and you won’t feel rushed. Loretta and the Butcher isn’t trying to reinvent the wheel. It’s just good, dependable, feel-good food in a spot that makes you feel welcome. And really, what more do you need?
