Pubbelly Sushi is one of those places you go without thinking twice if it’s the place to eat for the night. In layman’s terms, they’re winning — and it’s clear why. Run by Executive Chef Jose Mendin and his team, Pubbelly Sushi offers beautifully curated plates in timeless atmospheres. They’ve got four domestic locations in the Southeast (all poppin’) and one international hub in food-capital Mexico City. The cuisine is high-quality, always fresh, and handled with care. It’s a must-try for anyone in need of affordable fare, with a kick.

Mendin, a five-time James Beard Award semifinalist for “Best Chef, Southeast,” offers a banquet of choices for diners. His native PR influences show up in dishes like the PBS Chilaquiles (pork belly, kimchi, fried egg) and Coco Loco dessert (brown butter, coconut flakes, pineapple.) Otherwise, it’s just a well-versed East Asian extravaganza. 

The menu is rather large: starters, rolls, nigiri, sashimi, and even pieces off the grill. Plus, they’ve got bao buns—never gets old. Lastly, there are desserts and many many drinks to be found on the beverage board. To finish up, Pubbelly is all about the collective. There’s usually a DJ on deck in-house, which is built to host events. The warm lighting is sweet and cozy. Finally, a collection of heavy-hitting party platters are available for whoever might need one, up to 24 hours in advance. Yup. Winning.
