Sottosale is an Italian restaurant for the soul. The concept is to serve up mama’s home cooking to Miami gourmands. Pasta is dished on to giant plates intended for that real Italian family meal. The establishment warns: portions are for sharing.

The homey Italian restaurant is the 9th project by the already well-established Graspa group. Chef and owner Ivo Mazzon prepares many traditional dishes executed perfectly for the selective palates of Miamians, plus keeping gluten-free diets in mind. Chef Ivo absolutely ensures that everyone leaves his restaurant like they would leave their mother’s house — stuffed, satisfied, and happy.

Be aware, it might be hard to choose from the wide selection of authentic Italian comfort foods. Some dishes that captured our hearts are the Carne Salata, which features thinly sliced salted cured raw beef with fried sage & polenta. Tagliatelle Alla Bolognese — an absolute must for those craving Italian home cooking. As far as pizza goes, the classics are often best. Their La Classica pizza features the restaurant’s signature tomato sauce with top-notch mozzarella, basil, and oregano. Don’t leave without trying the Culotte on the Block — Picanha steak seared & cured with Himalayan Salt served over a warm block of salt.

Stop by on a Tuesday for La Familia Night. Families can enjoy prix fixe menus ($18 for adults and $9 for kids), including an appetizer, a choice of pasta, and a glass of wine. The wine collection is not to be missed. Shelves are well-stocked with specialties from all over Italy.
