Riviera Focacceria Italiana

Riviera Focacceria Italiana is a gemstone in Miami’s Italian food scene introducing gourmands to Liguria’s cuisine. The setting is cozy and inviting, not short of the trattorias found alongside the Italian coast. Italians know the star of the show is the food, so don’t expect any pompous interior distractions — just the purest ingredients prepared by traditional techniques passed on for generations.

The real specialty at this quaint little spot is the Focaccia con Formaggio (served by the tray!). Two layers of incredibly thin dough filled with stracchino cheese. The cheese is imported weekly directly from Italy. Trying the delicate cheesy-bready creation, you will have no questions why it has to be this cheese. The establishment warns that you may become addicted… we certainly are! Other must-tries include the restaurant’s homemade pasta (available gluten-free), including the Pansoti — a dumpling filled with spinach, ricotta cheese, and served under a delicate walnut sauce.

No Liguria food experience is complete without a made-from-scratch pesto sauce. Pesto originates in Liguria. Naturally, Riviera Focacceria had to do it justice, using imported Ligurian olive oil, pine nuts, and local basil. All served over thin Mandilli pasta. If you don’t have room for everything, don’t be afraid to take leftovers to-go. The explosive fresh flavors will surely leave you with a gratifying next-day snack. Although for those wishing to indulge in a less carb-heavy meal, there’s plenty of satisfying options, from pan-seared snapper to slow-cooked short ribs.

To graciously pair with the meal, Riviera Foccceria hosts an extensive wine selection featuring organic wines from regions all over Italy. The restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor dining on the covered patio. Reservations are recommended, especially on weekends.
