GROU is a specialty coffee shop and coworking space serving up one of the best cups of joe in Coral Gables. The owners and founders of GROU, Barbara Safina and Orlando Superlano are a young married couple originally from Venezuela. Their idea behind GROU was to build a community space where local brands and entrepreneurs could grow, blossom, and bloom. In fact, the space serves as more than a coffee shop and coworking space. It offers businesses without a brick and mortar a place to sell their goods and Miami’s entrepreneurs, old and young, a space to work and mingle. All while receiving a whopping 20 percent off the entire menu for members of the Coworking space. Really though, the coffee at this establishment has us coming back time and time again. With traditional espresso-based drinks, original creations, and even a rotating drink of the month. Keeping it caffeine-free? We don’t judge, nor does GROU, by offering a wide variety of teas, cocoa, and juices. The local coffee shop also doubles as the city’s very first affogato bar. Who said you can’t enjoy a shot of espresso over some ice cream in between work calls? There are five flavors to choose from, so you can try a new one every day of the week if you’re the hardworking type. Crowd favorites include the coco matcha affogato, coconut ice cream, toasted granola, white chocolate with a matcha latte shot, or the classic, a shot of espresso over vanilla ice cream. The cafe serves all-day breakfast and lunch with toasts, bowls, and pastries to choose from. Best of all, the entire menu effortlessly accommodates both vegan and gluten-free diets. A quick tip: you might feel like avocado toasts are over-rated by now, but GROU’s is a must. We don’t know what they do to that avocado, but it’s got the whole city talking.
