Diya is a one-of-a-kind Miami Beach hot spot offering vegan Indian food in a classy environment. Diya Maharaj owns and operates the restaurant with her three children — Manni, Dharam, Vidya, and Dharam’s wife, Valerie Slone. The elegant restaurant doesn’t fail to bring warmth to every table as Diya’s goal is to introduce the joy of their home’s vegetarian kitchen to epicureans longing for some unforgettable flavors. 

Currently, the restaurant is helmed by Diya’s daughter — executive chef Vidya Maharaj, who masterfully fused her epidemiology and science background to create colorful dishes full of nutrition, flavor, and a dash of Latin influence. Crowd favorites include the Masala Dosa — a thin rice crepe stuffed with potato and served with sambaar dhaal and coconut chutney; or the Gobi Manchurian — crispy cauliflower in a mouth-watering sauce. Dishes here are tapas-style, so we recommend coming with a group of friends for the full deal. 

What takes Diya over and above is their cocktail lab, which offers refreshing sips like the Masala Lemonade with jaggery or the infamous Diya Gin and Tonic — a delightful mix of Amass gin, house-made tonic, and lemon. An exuberant start to dinner. Oh, and did we mention all of the bar’s ingredients are made from scratch? In the case that you’re yet feeling a little more adventurous, take the back hallway into The BackRoom. This little dive bar is the casual cousin of Diya, where you can find amazing plant-based pizza, tacos, and tequila-focussed cocktails. Bring your friends here for a night out as the Backroom stays open till 2 am daily and has a pool table alongside occasional live music.
